Research Team

Prof. Vlasios Voudouris, PhD, Chief Analyst & Head of Research

  • 10 years of experience in agent-based modeling (ABM) and lead author of the core ABM algorithm; Affiliate Professor at ESCP Europe Business School

Dr. Vlasios Voudouris is the Chief Analyst at ABM Analytics Ltd and an Affiliate Professor at the triple-crown accredited ESCP Europe Business School. Vlasios has a wealth of experience in evidence-based energy policy, quantitative analysis and risk-adjusted investment processes in energy commodities. By way of two examples, Vlasios contributed to a) the House of Commons Energy and Climate Change Select Committee inquiry into the "UK's Energy Supply: Security or Independence?" and b) the Pacific Energy Summmit following the invitation by the US National Bureau of Asian Research. He also lead the policy report "Investment opportunities in Greece: Oil, gas, electricity and renewables" for KEPE (under the Ministry of Regional Development and Competitiveness).

Vlasios is the original author of the core analytical algorithm of ABM Analytics and a founding member of the GAMLSS group. Alongside his work in business, Vlasios publishes papers in journals and magazines, reviews papers for international journals and organises conferences such as the “UK Energy Day” which runs under the umbrella of the Intelligent Energy Europe agency of the European Commission. Vlasios is also a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Financial Engineering and Risk Management and the Editor of the SI 'Oil and Gas Prespectives in the 21st century' at the Energy Policy journal. Furthermore, Vlasios is the co-editor of the book Global Energy Policy and Security published by Springer.

Prof. Michael Jefferson, Senior Advisor

  • 45 years of energy/policy experience with Royal Dutch Shell, Word Energy Council and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
  • Recipient of the IPCC’s certificate for his contributions to their award of the Nobel Prize in 2007.

Prof. Michael Jefferson is the Editor of the Energy Policy journal and Affiliate Professor at ESCP Europe Business School. Michael studied at Oxford University and London School of Economics, before going into an economics consultancy, an industrial policy body, and then becoming Chief Economist of The Royal Dutch / Shell Group. He spent nearly 20 years in Shell in various roles, from Head of Planning in Europe to a Director of Oil Supply and Trading.

Michael then spent ten years as Deputy Secretary-General of the World Energy Council, where he began working with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change as Contributing Author, Lead Author, Editorial Reviewer and Expert Reviewer, culminating in his receipt of the IPCC's certificate for his contributions to their award of the Nobel Peace Prize in December 2007. Michael has also written extensively on energy policy, including contributions to various UN bodies, and was for many years involved with the World Renewable Energy Network and Congresses. Michael is a Visiting Professor in the Department of Economics and International Studies at Buckingham University and a member of the Technical Advisory Group of the Renewable Energy Foundation.

Alongside his work in business, he has written several books in the fields of energy and economics; contributed to books on economic and social history; and written or co-authored many peer-reviewed papers in the energy and environmental field.

Prof. Robert Ayres, PhD, Scientific Advisor

  • 50 years of experience in energy economics and technological change; first Novartis Chair of Management and the Environment at INSEAD.

Prof. Robert Ayres is Scientific Advisor at ABM Analytics and INSEAD Emeritus Professor of Economics and Political Science and Technology Management. Professor Ayres joined INSEAD in 1992, becoming the first Novartis (formerly Sandoz) Chair of Management and the Environment, as well as the founder of CMER. He directed CMER from 1992-2000, when he retired. He remains an active member of INSEAD, producing numerous publications on topics ranging from Industrial Metabolisms and Industrial Ecology, through Environmental Policy and Technology Evaluation, Economic Growth and Environmental Regulation, Environmental Economics, to Eco-restructuring.

Professor Ayres holds a PhD in Mathematical Physics from Kings College, University of London, a MSc in Physics from the University of Maryland and a BA, BSc from the University of Chicago. He is an Adjunct Professor of Mineral Economics at Pennsylvania State University and Visiting Professor at Chalmers University Gotheburg. His former positions include, among others, that of Professor of Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, and Deputy Leader of the Technology-Economy-Society Program, International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), Laxenburg, Austria. From 1994-1997 he was a member of the International Advisory Board to the Wuppertal Institut für Klima, Energie und Umwelt, Germany.

Dr. Konstantinos Skindilias, PhD, Senior Research Associate

  • 5 years of experience in financial modeling, particularly financial derivatives

Dr. Konstantinos Skindilias is Senior Research Associate at ABM Analytics and a Senior Lecturer at the department of Mathematics at the University of Greenwich.

He has worked as an independent consultant for Leon Depolas Securities S.A. (Greece), a prominent member of the Athens Stock Exchange, for the development of the derivatives platform of the company initiation to derivative research, where he also worked as an equity trader in 2005.

Dr. Rocio Valdivielso del Real, PhD, Research Associate

Dr Rocio Valdivielso del Real is Research Associate at ABM Analytics, a Visiting Academic at the Centre of Globalisation and Regionalisation (CSGR), University of Warwick, and Research Associate at the London Centre for Corporate Governance and Business Ethics, Birkbeck University of London. Her expertise are international business strategy, institutional change, public policy, re-regulation of energy markets. Rocio has a particular interest in global energy policy, energy security, government regulation and business strategies for environmental sustainability in the context of the financial crisis.

Carlo Di Maio, MSc, Research Consultant

Carlo is a Consultant at ABM Analytics and a Equity Research Analyst at Deutsche Bank. Carlo has a wealth of experience in analysing corporate financial data and trends. Carlo helps ABM Analytics to study public records of businesses in order to predict the company's future financial needs and describe the business's investment potential. Carlo is one of the key contributors of the ACEGES (Agent-based Computational Economics of the Global Energy System) tool which is ABM Analytics flagship tool.

Daniil Kiose, PhD, Research Consultant

  • Nuclear Physics and Materials Science from Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (National Research Nuclear University, Russia)
  • Research expertise in Energy Modelling

Dr. Daniil Kiose is a Research Consultant at ABM Analytics working in the area of energy modelling. Daniil is also one of the key research contributors of a Java library for the development of highly flexible semi-parametric econometric models developed by ABM Analytics Ltd.

Prof. Mikis Stasinopoulos, PhD

Dr. Mikis Stasinopoulos is a Research Advisor at ABM Analytics and a Professor at the Statistics, Operational Research and Mathematics (STORM) centre. Mikis is the original co-author of the GAMLSS (Generalised Additive Model for Location Scale and Shape) framework which is a widely used statistical framework for regression-type of models. Mikis was also a committee chair at the Royal Statistical Society and is a contributor of the ACEGES tool.

Dr. Bob Rigby, PhD

  • 30 years of experience in applied statistics and mathematics with a strong focus in distribution theories

Dr. Bob Rigby is a Research Advisor at ABM Analytics and a Reader at the Statistics, Operational Research and Mathematics (STORM) centre. Bob is the original co-author of the GAMLSS (Generalised Additive Model for Location Scale and Shape) framework which is a widely used statistical framework for regression-type of models. Bob is also a contributor of the ACEGES tool, particularly in relation to distributions theories for "Black Swans".

Dr. Nikolaos I. Georgikopoulos, PhD

Dr. Nikolaos I. Georgikopoulos is Research Advisor at ABM Analytics and a senior research fellow in financial economics at the Centre of Planning and Economic Research (KEPE), which operates under the supervision of the Greek Ministry for Development, Competitiveness, Infrastructure, Transport and Networks. Dr Georgikopoulos is also a visiting research Professor at New York University - Leonard N. Stern School of Business. Dr Georgikopoulos is a founding member of the Society for Financial Econometrics (SoFiE), based at New York University - Stern School of Business, whose founding co-President was Prof. Robert Engle (2003 Nobel Prize in Economics). Dr Georgikopoulos has been attending (on behalf of KEPE) the Committee on Financial Markets at the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) since 2009.

Prof. Paul Eilers, PhD

  • 30 years of experience in genetical statistics with a strong focus on smoothing techniques
  • Professor at Erasmus University, Netherlands

Dr. Eilers's research interests include genomic data analysis (esp. high throughput genomic data), chemometrics, smoothing, longitudinal data analysis, survival analysis, and statistical computing. Paul's statistical hobby is filtering and smoothing of time series and signals. Paul's contribution to the ABM Analytics flagship tools is based upon his substantial experience in smoothing with P-splines.

Prof. Donald Nordberg, PhD

  • 20 years of experience with Reuters as Vice President and Financial Editor
  • Management scholar at University of Westminster; Visiting Professor of Journalism at City University

Prof. Donald Nordberg is a writer, strategist and consultant. An eclectic scholar, he has worked sustainability, corporate and public governance and their impact on corporate strategy. He also publishes The Board Agenda, a newsletter and online research tool for corporate directors and their advisers. During nearly 20 years at Reuters in Europe and the United States, he served in a variety of senior editorial and marketing roles. Donald was Vice President, Reuters America, responsible for financial news marketing and development of a financial television service. He has also served as a consultant to companies including National Westminster Bank, United Business Media and Dow Jones.

Since becoming an academic, he has taught strategic management, financial regulation and innovation. His writes on corporate governance and information industries. Donald studied at the University of Illinois, London Business School and University of Warwick.

Prof. Ashish Mishra, MBA

  • 20 years of global business experience (Speaker at House of Lords on Creative Economies; Senior Manager, Mayor London/London Development Agency promotional offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Delhi, Mumbai and Moscow; Chief of Mission for London House, London’s Olympic Venue in China 2008).
  • Programme Head at United Nations Support Facility for Indonesian Recovery working study on Corporate Sector Reform.

Prof. Ashish Mishra is CEO of Strategic Asia Europe and Co- founder of Strategic Asia. Ashish is an Advisory Board Member to a number of technology firms on Asian strategy and a Special Advisor to the CEO of Asia House. Formerly in charge of The Emerging Markets Programme for China and India at the London Development Agency on behalf of the Mayor of London. Ashish received his MBA in International Management and BA (Hons) in Public Administration and Law from the University of London.
